Facebook has officially decided that they will be censoring content on their platform to restrict the ability of their users to access information about vaccines in particular. In this newsroom press release, they outline six aggressive steps they are taking to ensure no one learns the truth about vaccinations.

Facebook redirects their users towards “authoritative information” which in their view comes only from “leading global health organizations” such as the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Central Authority for Health

Unfortunately, the concept that you can rely on a centralized authority to be the gatekeepers of human health is so deeply, fundamentally flawed that it is difficult to overstate how insane that notion is. Health maintenance in an intrinsically intimate, personal journey that touches on human relationships and a whole host of non-empirical factors. You can make some general statements that are true, but the more specific you get with your health recommendations, the more edge cases and exceptions that must be made.

Not to mention the fact that the CDC has been wrong.

Did I mention the CDC has been wrong?

Yes, that’s right, the CDC gets things wrong.

The Centers for Disease Control has been wrong in the past more than once.

They’ve been wrong more than twice.

And the Centers for Disease Control is wrong about vaccines.

Let’s not forget the venerable World Health Organization. Do they ever get things wrong? Yes they do.

Even the World Health Organization gets things wrong.

The WHO has gotten many things wrong.

Did I mention the WHO was wrong before?

Yes, even the WHO has been wrong.

And the WHO is wrong about vaccines.

Facebook will eventually succumb to this fact due to the nature of the error itself. Human demographics will eventually result in the vast majority of the human population knowing the truth about vaccines. But it could take many generations for this to come to pass.

But until that time, every minute you spend on Facebook is literally funding the very misinformation and disinformation campaigns that so many families injured by vaccines are warring against.

So What Can You Do?

  1. Stop using Facebook. That’s right. Just stop. There are many alternatives to the big central social media platforms. Look for a small, specialized forum on the topic of your choosing and encourage people to visit those smaller forums for their information.
  2. Get a good Ad Blocker. If for some reason you can’t stop using Facebook, or you need some time to ween off, then you can immediately install an advertisement blocker for your specific phone or web browser. For example, the Chrome Web Store has several options. This will prevent Facebook from receiving ad revenue from your visits to their site.
  3. Encourage other people to stop using Facebook. You could direct individuals to this page, or link them to smaller community websites you’ve found where you can share ideas.
  4. Encourage businesses to stop using Facebook. This is easier than it sounds. You don’t need to force them to shut down their Facebook page immediately, but you can kindly recommend that they move their social interactions to a platform that doesn’t intentionally mislead their viewers about vaccines.
  5. Tell Facebook that you’ve left and why. They won’t care. But give them a few decades. They’ll come around or crumble. It’s the nature of collective thought.

But I Run a Business on Facebook…

Yeah, that’s too bad. Facebook’s decision is going to hurt many people and businesses. If your business cares about the health and well being of the people you serve, then you should at the very least take a public stand. Here are some ideas you can do:

  1. Publicly call out Facebook on their error. Pin a message or post to the top of your page or group.
  2. Modify your header image or profile image. Include a reference to the truth about vaccines.
  3. Stop all Facebook advertising. You certainly don’t want to pay someone who advocating for injecting poison into your customer base.
  4. Encourage all customers to install ad blockers. Again, hit Facebook where it counts: ad revenue. You can have a greater impact if you can convince your customer base to rise up.
  5. Start looking for alternatives. Stay away from YouTube, Instagram, and other platforms that have similar censorship.

Until Facebook changes their tune (don’t hold your breath), we need to face the fact that they are going to be the source of much pain and suffering for families who rely on their platform to find information. Alas, even corporations can fall for the appeal to authority fallacy. But we can each do our part to ensure we don’t contribute to the problem. So keep up the good work!
